Fat and Single – 2nd May
Two rides in one really……..
The weather was OK…… Well, it was good compared to some of the stuff we’ve been having recently! So with just over an hour to kill before the usual Wednesday meet I decided rather than potter around the house, I’d go for a spin on the Muk. Bounce up and down a few kerbs, and generally blow peoples minds with the size of the bikes tyres…….. Fat bikes get you like that!
Ride – #69A Bike – ’12 Salsa Mukluk
Miles – 8.3 Total 2012 miles – 1547.3
Ten of us headed out, not really sure what the route would be, as the plans were changed at the last minute due to Gray Moon being able to make it to the Shep on time. It ended up quite a simple route really, Elkin Wood, Y, Church Wood, Y, Millisons Wood. The plan was to head out to Tile Hill, but the sticky conditions had slowed us, and I think everyones legs were feeling it.
The Carver held together, but the conditions really didn’t suit Singlespeeding…. Not muddy enough to mess up a deraillieur, but so sticky I needed to shift into a lower gear when I hit mud.
Still it was a learning curve, and it made me realise that for Enduro 6 and the mud that will be there this weekend I really need to gear it down from 32:16 to 32:18. With Albany not having an 18t rear it’ll probably mean stealing one off the GT. Although I do have the option of trying L.Lakes in Daventry……
