Tour of Britain and Tour of Cannock – 13th September

A trip to Cannock Chase with Lump, Norbert and a Godiva Trailriders member who will remain anonymous as he’d actually thrown a sickie!

A good early morning blast round the Northside, before heading up to the road climb out of Brocton to watch the Tour of Britain riders come through. The chase was pretty deserted, but as soon as we got to the road it was packed! After about a half hour wait, during which time we had our photo taken with a 7ft tall white Yeti (but not our anonymous rider) the Tour of Britain riders came through. I only recognised Mark Cavendish, and that was because he was wearing the gold jersey of the race leader.

I’m told we’re clearly visible on the ITV4 highlight show, on the left about 100 yards before the top of the climb….. I’ll have to check that out.

We then headed for the cafe at Birches Valley for a lunchtime snack followed by a lap of the shorter “Follow the Dog” mountain bike trail for Lump and Norbert. While mystery rider and me did the longer “Monkey” trail.

Home for about 4,  just enough time clean the bike, put the kit in the washing machine, quick shower and head to work.
