Exile On Watling Street – 23rd September
In another dubious music link I was travelling home on the A5 (Watling Street) listening to the Stone’s 1972 album Exile on Main Street…. probably my favorite Stone’s album. So this post’s title was formed. Recording of the album was started in Keith Richard’s rented villa Nellcote, in Villefrance-sur-Mer, a stunning village nestled between Nice and Monaco…. a bit of useless trivia It could also be related to the album Exile On Coldharbour Lane by Alabama3, a superb band, who did the theme tune to The Sopranos…. but as that was in the glovebox not actually playing the Stones get the credit.
With rain forecast for about 2pm it was a 9am start. Rob and Bev turned up, and we headed off to ride some of the stuff on the Northside.
Not exactly the fastest ride, as Bev will probably admit, she’s not ridden mountrain bikes much recently…. infact part of the point of the ride was to see if she wants to keep her Rocky Mountain bike or sell it….
So a nice easy pace with the occasional stop, ending with a drink outside the cafe at Birches Valley, and the inevitable questions about the fat bikes…
I considered heading out on my own after the cafe, but decided against it as it was about 1 and the thought of getting rained on didn’t appeal! Good decision, as almost as soon as I got onto the A5 it started raining!
P.S. Keep the bike Bev! Hope the bruising isn’t too bad…. 🙂
