The Old Steeds

  • 2010 Genesis DayOne (8 speed Alfine)

Owned since new, purchased on the cycle to work scheme (and yes, I did). Pretty much as standard apart from Crosstop brake levers.

Year round, got most of it’s use on the road, but had been known to hack round woods occasionally. In the end the 8 speed hub gears were it’s downfall, steps between gears were a bit uneven and 4th to 5th (if I remember correctly) was horrible.

Eventually it really started to get on my nerves, so much so that I really didn’t enjoy riding it….. so it had to go

  • 2012 (built) Calver 96er (2006 frame)

Was been built from parts sourced over a 6 month period. US made frame (Carver), headset (Chris King) and forks (White Brothers).

The EBB gave the option of running it singlespeed

A bike I really enjoyed building, and enjoyed riding, but if I wanted to ride a hardtail I’d take the Trek…. so after much soul searching she was stripped and the main parts sold off, although I still have the 69er wheelset somewhere in the shed!
